weekly photo challenge: windows

coconut milk

This weeks photo challenge is (was) about windows. One of my favorite travel photos is of a window…an open window.

A small window propped open with a stick. The shutter overhead hangs crookedly…coconut milk filled plastic soda bottles line the lower sash…the last bottle on the left is the only one with a red cap…

A small handmade wooden table sits off center, beneath the shopkeepers only window. A white, floral cotton swath of fabric covers all but one corner of the table… green and yellow bananas sit beside fresh whole coconuts…but my eyes were on the window.

The row of bottled coconut milk, the fruit for sale beneath, the soft white paint covering the concrete walls, the crooked shutter…the island on which this little shop was situated… it was all so beautiful…I had to take a photo…

The island was Rarotonga.

It was a two month stop along our ’round the world trip we took years ago…it was magic…

We rented a small flat from a local woman and rode our rented bicycles everyday, everywhere…we savored cooking on an actual stove and loved the weekly farmers market. This is where I first spotted this lovely open window – at the market.

I also appreciated the many beaches, the simplicity of our daily lives, the balmy breezes, the lush mountain hikes and all the photo opportunities…this one in particular…

Windows.

They all have a view – good or bad – and they all show something perhaps not so easily seen from the other side…of the window…

enjoy.

weekly photo challenge: curves

This weeks photo challenge was irresistible.

The theme – Curves.

I had to participate.

They are everywhere…plus, I just love, curves…curves on a body, a bowl, a mountain, a rock, a shell, a leaf, a flower…curves are everywhere and are so lovely

Here are a few objects, with curves, I photographed around my home.

I may even try and squeeze one more post (before this Fridays deadline) about curves, though curves found in nature versus objects…fingers crossed that time will allow…

This was so much fun!

enjoy.

inspiration

What inspires you? That was the question asked by the folks from WordPress’ daily post last week. It’s not only a question, but a special photo challenge. They want to see what inspires each of us to blognot only through words, but in action. They want to see what it is we ‘do’ – what makes us want to blog. What inspires us.

So I decided to accept this challenge and set up my camera (while little man was napping) and take a few snapshots of me ‘doing what I do’… I’ve also included a few photos other’s have taken along the way…

To me, inspiration is endless, it’s everywhere, it’s ever changing, it’s fun, it’s life. This is why I blog.

I love (thus am inspired by) finding a great deal (preferably free) unfortunately no photos of me dump shopping (yet), traveling, gardening, growing my own, cooking for family and friends, making art with my son, being outdoors, living in Maine, the sky at sunrise and sunset, baking, taking pictures…this list can go on and on, but for now, just a few pics of me, doing what I do

The timing of this ‘what inspires you’ challenge is quite poetic for me. It goes beyond blogging… I started this post before knowing my life was about to change. My mother, unexpectedly, passed away last weekend.  And while it may seem strange to some that I am sharing this, I am because She was my inspiration. My mother lived life differently than most.  I learned what to do and what not do from her – but most importantly she always inspired me to be me. This is why I blog. Thank you mom. I love you and I miss you. You, Gypsy Di, will always be my inspiration…wherever you may be.
